•  Dredge Essayons in Humboldt Bay

Notice to all mariners, the dredge ESSAYONS arrived on Tuesday May 8th and will be dredging the Bar and Entrance channels of Humboldt Bay for approximately 28 days. Please use extreme caution when transitting Humboldt Bay.


•  USCG Auxiliary Boating Safety Class Schedule for 2012

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary has announced their Boating Safety Class schedule for 2012. All one-day classes are held in the Woodley Island Marina conference room, Eureka, CA from 9:00am to 3:30pm. Class fee is $40.00 and pre-registration is required.

•  NOAA Marine Debris Program

Lately there have been questions in regards to marine debris created by the March 11, 2011 tsunami in Japan: When will the debris reach in the United States? How large is the debris field? •  New Commercial Fishing Industry Vessel Safety Act (CFIVSA) Laws

REMINDER: The new Commercial Fishing Vessel Safety laws go into effect October 2012.

Required Training of Commercial Fishing Vessel Operators: Section 604 authorizes and requires a training program for the operators of commercial fishing vessels that operate beyond 3NM. The program is based on professional knowledge and hands on training. The program also gives credit for recent past experience. Those who successfully complete the program will receive a certificate valid for 5 years. Refresher training will be required at least 1x in a 5-year cycle to keep the certificate current.

The Harbor Safety Committee makes recommendations to the Administrator of the Office of Spill Prevention and Response (OSPR), California Department of Fish and Game and is established pursuant to Section 8670.23 of the Government Code and Title 14, California Code of Regulations, Sections 800-802.
